Week 9 NFL Predictions

I was 9-4 last week, finally getting back to a solid correct prediction percentage.

I messed up with Dallas, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Atlanta. Dallas should have won, but Calvin Johnson was a beast with him and Matthew Stafford single-handedly winning that game. Philadelphia lost Michael Vick to injury again, which hurt their chances. Matt Barkley isn’t the answer right now and needs some work to be the answer… ever. Philly’s offense has really cooled off. I actually wanted to pick Oakland, but I ultimately went with the Steelers, which was obviously a mistake. Atlanta is a lost team with all of their injuries and poor offensive line play. Arizona dominated that game to torn down my fantasy team in the process.

This week Arizona, Denver, Detroit, Jacksonville, San Francisco and the New York Giants are on a bye. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns about my Week 9 NFL Predictions.

Cincinnati Bengals 6-2 @ Miami Dolphins 3-4

Prediction: Cincinnati Bengals

Miami looked good early against New England last week, but they eventually faltered. Now they play a Cincinnati team that looked unstoppable at home against the Jets winning 49-9. I think Cincinnati’s defensive line will be the deciding factor this week as Miami still struggles to pass protect and consistently run the ball. Those aren’t the issues you want to be dealing with when playing the Bengals’ defense. It will be interesting to see if Andy Dalton can continue to tear it up with a short week on the road.

Sunday, 11/03 – 1:00 pm ET

Atlanta Falcons 2-5 @ Carolina Panthers 4-3

Prediction: Carolina Panthers

Carolina has been hot and the Falcons have not. Plus, I just don’t see Atlanta righting the sinking ship on the road. The Panthers’ defense is legit and Cam Newton should put some points on the board for the Panthers.

Minnesota Vikings 1-6 @ Dallas Cowboys 4-4

Prediction: Dallas Cowboys

I don’t know why people care so much about Dez Bryant’s “blow-up” on the sidelines at the end of last week’s game. He is a passionate player who didn’t want to lose that way and plus… does it really hurt team chemistry? Nope. These guys are professionals who will go back out this week and, presumably, beat up on a struggling Minnesota team that still seems to avoid featuring Adrian Peterson and lacks any semblance of a secondary on defense.

New Orleans Saints 6-1 @ New York Jets 4-4

Prediction: New Orleans Saints

Is New York that bad? Or, is Cincinnati that good? I tend to lean towards the Jets still being a quality defensive team that can’t keep up with teams who exploit that defense. Sound promising for a Jets team facing off against the Saints’ high-powered offense? Nope. I like the Saints.

Tennessee Titans 3-4 @ St. Louis Rams 3-5

Prediction: Tennessee Titans

Tennessee goes to St. Louis to play former coach, Jeff Fisher. And… that’s about the most intriguing storyline for this game. The Rams are missing Sam Bradford to season-ending ACL surgery and potentially most impactful offensive player, running back Zac Stacy, to an ankle injury. The Rams played tough Monday night, but the Titans, led by Jake Locker, have put up some points. Chris Johnson is still non-existent, but I like the Titans to outscore the Rams, which… you know… means they win.

Kansas City Chiefs 8-0 @ Buffalo Bills 3-5

Prediction: Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City plays a style of football focused on avoiding mistakes with a power run game, strong defense and Alex Smith’s occasional interjection. Playing in Buffalo is a trap game, but that safe style of play should be enough to win another relatively close matchup.

San Diego Chargers 4-3 @ Washington Redskins 2-5

Prediction: Washington Redskins

Washington’s defense has been awful this season, but I like the Redskins to surprise in a shootout. The trip across country is always difficult on teams and I expect San Diego’s to be no different. I’m looking for great performances from both quarterbacks, but the Redskins to win in a close one.

Sunday, 11/03 – 4:05 pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles 3-5 @ Oakland Raiders 3-4

Prediction: Oakland Raiders

The Raiders have proven they aren’t a team that can be easily overlooked (I’m looking at you Jacksonville…) and with Terrelle Pryor at quarterback, they should be able to beat Philly in Oakland. The Eagles are starting Nick Foles, who is coming off a concussion, which, hopefully, kickstarts an offense that has been atrocious as of late. I don’t think they do get it going again this week with Pryor bringing back my “Superstar” nickname I have for him.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 0-7 @ Seattle Seahawks 7-1

Prediction: Seattle Seahawks

Raise your hand if you think the Bucs have a chance. You’re lying. Tampa Bay has slowly joined Jacksonville as teams who I want to see win before I predict they do. They won’t this week in Seattle.

Sunday, 11/03 – 4:25 pm ET

Baltimore Ravens 3-4 @ Cleveland Browns 3-5

Prediction: Cleveland Browns

The Ravens have been silent this season and terribly inconsistent. The Browns have been the Browns with the exception of a couple wins courtesy of Brian Hoyer. Still, I like Cleveland in this one. They play tough at home and the Ravens aren’t necessarily tearing it up. The Browns’ defense will be key.

Pittsburgh Steelers 2-5 @ New England Patriots 6-2

Prediction: New England Patriots

There isn’t the traditional fanfare surrounding this matchup, which is a reflection of how crazy this season has been in the NFL. I think the Patriots will win though. Both teams are struggling, but the Patriots are struggling to 6-2 and Pittsburgh has struggled to 2-5. It should be a close, low-scoring game, decided by the Patriots defense. Call it a hunch.

Sunday, 11/03 – 8:30 pm ET

Indianapolis Colts 5-2 @ Houston Texans 3-4

Prediction: Indianapolis Colts

Indy has already beaten Seattle, San Francisco and Denver. The Colts are for real. They are missing Reggie Wayne for the rest of the season, but the Colts have playmakers at receiver to compensate. With how unreliable the Texans have been and the very impressive play of the Colts, I think this is pretty clear cut with Indy coming out on top.

Monday, 11/04 – 8:40 pm ET

Chicago Bears 4-3 @ Green Bay Packers 5-2

Prediction: Green Bay Packers

Without Jay Cutler, I don’t know if Chicago has a chance. The Bears defense is still great, but Aaron Rodgers counters that with his tremendous ability. I picked the Packers to make the Super Bowl and now they are showing a run game to compliment their passing attack that could propel them to that point. With Cutler, the Bears can compete, but with him out, I think the Packers stay hot.
