Week 10 Predictions
I am coming off a week where I went 9-5. Not bad, but looking for better. I really messed up with the late games by picking Dallas with the upset, Oakland with the home win, and by picking the Giants over Pittsburgh. The teams on bye are the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins.
Thursday, 11/8 – 8:20 pm ET
Indianapolis Colts 5-3 @ Jacksonville Jaguars 1-7
Prediction: Indianapolis Colts
I like Indianapolis in this one. QB Andrew Luck has played very well as of late and Jacksonville’s 25th-ranked pass defense and 8 sacks in 8 games don’t exactly concern me when looking at this game. Factor in Jacksonville’s lack of a consistent offense and I like the Colts.
Sunday, 11/11 – 1:00 pm ET
San Diego Chargers 4-4 @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-4
Prediction: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay’s offense is on fire. QB Josh Freeman, RB Doug Martin and the receivers, Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams have created an explosive offensive attack and the Buccaneers defense has been great against the run (1st in the NFL). Any other year and I would feel pretty good about San Diego potentially exploiting Tampa’s 32nd-ranked pass defense. San Diego isn’t nearly as explosive this year though. I like the Buccaneers.
Tennessee Titans 3-6 @ Miami Dolphins 4-4
Prediction: Tennessee Titans
I want to pick Miami here because I have been impressed with QB Ryan Tannehill and Miami has played well as a team throughout the season. I like Tennessee though because I think the return of QB Jake Locker makes the difference. Locker played well early in the year without much help from the rest of his team. Now I don’t think Tennessee is suddenly a playoff contender or anything, but I do think Locker invigorates Tennessee and pulls off the win.
Buffalo Bills 3-5 @ New England Patriots 5-3
Prediction: New England Patriots
The Bills defense is ranked 31st in total yards allowed and the Patriots offense is 1st in total offense. Also considering how the Patriots and QB Tom Brady almost never lose to Buffalo, I like New England to continue their success over their AFC East rival.
Oakland Raiders 3-5 @ Baltimore Ravens 6-2
Prediction: Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore is the better team in this matchup. Baltimore is playing at home, where they excel, and Baltimore’s 28th-ranked run defense is facing an Oakland team playing without their top two running backs (Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson) who are suffering from high-ankle sprains. Point being, Oakland isn’t good enough to beat Baltimore in Baltimore without the benefit of some good matchups. They have none.
Denver Broncos 5-3 @ Carolina Panthers 2-6
Prediction: Denver Broncos
Broncos QB, Peyton Manning, is dominating and I don’t think Carolina has what it takes to slow him down. Carolina has had problems offensively with QB Cam Newton and his “sophomore struggles”. Denver’s defense is 10th in total yards allowed and should be capable of shutting Carolina’s offense down just enough to let Manning does his thing.
New York Giants 6-3 @ Cincinnati Bengals 3-5
Prediction: New York Giants
Cincinnati is reeling and I don’t think a matchup against the reigning Super Bowl champs will help things. Cincinnati has talent, but can’t put it together. Their offense is inconsistent and their defense has been awful. New York is hitting their stride despite losing last week to Pittsburgh. QB Eli Manning should put together a solid game and New York should win.
Detroit Lions 4-4 @ Minnesota Vikings 5-4
Prediction: Detroit Lions
I have been very impressed with Minnesota this season and I continue to think they have a talented team, but in recent weeks they look flawed. Their defense hasn’t been performing as well as they did in early weeks and the offense has reverted back to the “Adrian Peterson show” with the passing game struggling. Also, WR Percy Harvin is likely to sit out, meaning Detroit’s 7th-ranked total defense can key in on Peterson. I also think Detroit and their offense have finally found their groove.
Atlanta Falcons 8-0 @ New Orleans Saints 3-5
Prediction: New Orleans Saints
Call this a hunch. This should be a shootout since New Orleans can’t stop anyone, much less Atlanta’s high-powered offense, and nobody can really stop New Orleans. I think the deciding factor in all of this is that the game is in New Orleans. You know the atmosphere will be electric and I think it is enough to get a solid game out of the Saints.
Sunday, 11/11 – 4:05 pm ET
New York Jets 3-5 @ Seattle Seahawks 5-4
Prediction: Seattle Seahawks
I think the New York Jets will be that team that somehow sneaks into the playoffs like they always do, but this week, it’s all about Seattle. Seattle’s defense is phenomenal and their offense has been very good in recent weeks. Most importantly, the game is in Seattle. Home games in Seattle give the Seahawks a huge advantage. I’m going with them.
Sunday, 11/11 – 4:25 pm ET
Dallas Cowboys 3-5 @ Philadelphia Eagles 3-5
Prediction: Dallas Cowboys
I like Dallas in this one. Dallas has a top-tier defense (5th in total yards allowed) and their offense, while maddening, has enough talent to compete any week. Philadelphia is in trouble. QB Michael Vick continues to turn the ball over and the defense isn’t nearly as elite as expected. I think Dallas wins this game of underachievers.
St. Louis Rams 3-5 @ San Francisco 49ers 6-2
Prediction: San Francisco 49ers
This one is quick. San Francisco sports one of the best defenses in the league (2nd in total defense) and has a run game offensively that is brutal. Even the passing game with QB Alex Smith has become formidable. St. Louis is simply overmatched and i don’t expect this one to turn into an upset.
Sunday, 11/11 – 8:20 pm ET
Houston Texans 7-1 @ Chicago Bears 7-1
Prediction: Chicago Bears
I’m on the bandwagon. In this matchup of game-changing defenses, I’m taking the Bears. Both defenses will make moving the ball very difficult and both teams are very talented on offense, but not major point scorers. I like Chicago, in part because of it being in Chicago. By now you’ve heard me say that I think home field advantage is important and I think this game is the same. I’m taking the Bears.
Monday, 11/12 – 8:30 pm ET
Kansas City Chiefs 1-7 @ Pittsburgh Steelers 5-3
Prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh should win… because… well… they’re better… in every aspect of the game.
