Week 8 Predictions

I avenged myself for my atrocious showing in Week 6 (4-10) by picking 10-3 last week. The teams on bye are the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals and the Houston Texans.

Thursday, 10/25 – 8:20 pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2-4 @ Minnesota Vikings 5-2

Prediction: Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings are actually a very good team. They have some solid young playmakers on both sides of the ball and while the Buccaneers are certainly improved, I think Minnesota continues their momentum.

Sunday, 10/28 – 1:00 pm ET

Miami Dolphins 3-3 @ New York Jets 3-4

Prediction: Miami Dolphins

I’ll go with the upset. Miami is coming off a bye week and they have the talent to challenge New York. The Jets defense is good enough to turn Dolphins QB, Ryan Tannehill over, but the Jets defense has struggled against he run. Miami RB, Reggie Bush, is healthy this time around I think that could be the difference.

San Diego Chargers 3-3 @ Cleveland Browns 1-6

Prediction: San Diego Chargers

Cleveland has improved over the past couple weeks, but they still hurt themselves with dropped passes on offense and other mistakes. San Diego isn’t much better, but they are the better team in this matchup.

Indianapolis Colts 3-3 @ Tennessee Titans 3-4

Prediction: Tennessee Titans

Titans RB, Chris Johnson, has been playing better in the past couple weeks and Indianapolis has struggled stopping the run. That alone should push the game in the Titans favor. This matchup is, otherwise, a toss-up. If Colts QB, Andrew Luck, puts on a solid performance, Indianapolis could win in a shootout.

New England Patriots 4-3 @ St. Louis Rams 3-4

Prediction: New England Patriots

New England is the better team. St. Louis has a good defense and a decent offense, but this young team shouldn’t beat the Patriots.

Jacksonville Jaguars 1-5 @ Green Bay Packers 4-3

Prediction: Green Bay Packers

Packers QB, Aaron Rodgers, has been on fire and while the Packers defense still has some holes, they are better than Jacksonville. Jacksonville is also missing star RB, Maurice Jones-Drew, which certainly doesn’t have things.

Atlanta Falcons 6-0 @ Philadelphia Eagles 3-3

Prediction: Atlanta Falcons

I’ll stick with the hot hand. Atlanta is undefeated thanks to their high-powered offense, which should be tested by Philly’s defense. I also think Eagles QB, Michael Vick, continues to struggle holding onto the ball. One thing to watch is how new Eagles defensive coordinator, Todd Bowles handles his new responsibilities.

Washington Redskins 3-4 @ Pittsburgh Steelers 3-3

Prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers

I think Redskins QB, Robert Griffin III, has a good game as he continues to impress in his rookie year. The real difference here is how the defenses fare. Pittsburgh’s defense will perform better than Washington’s and should be able to contain RGIII just enough to pull out the win at home.

Seattle Seahawks 4-3 @ Detroit Lions 2-4

Prediction: Seattle Seahawks

Seattle’s defense is incredible. I don’t see Detroit moving the ball much on them. Seattle’s offense really has opened up lately (outside of last week’s game against he stingy 49ers defense). Seattle should win.

Carolina Panthers 1-5 @ Chicago Bears 5-1

Prediction: Chicago Bears

Chicago is another hot team right now. Their defense has been fantastic and is more than capable of stopping the Panthers offense, which continues to limp along in Cam Newton’s sophomore season. I’ll take Chicago at home.

Sunday, 10/28 – 4:05 pm ET

Oakland Raiders 2-4 @ Kansas City Chiefs 1-5

Prediction: Oakland Raiders

Neither team is very good, but I like Oakland. QB Carson Palmer should be able to play well enough to complement RB Darren McFadden. Plus, I just don’t trust Chiefs QB Brady Quinn to win Kansas City a game.

Sunday, 10/28 – 4:25 pm ET

New York Giants 5-2 @ Dallas Cowboys 3-3

Prediction: New York Giants

New York has played well as of late and with their defense and QB Eli Manning hitting their stride, I expect the Giants to pull one out on the road. Dallas just hasn’t looked consistent. Their defense is good. They have a great pair of corners in Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr. The offense has just been a problem and unless they get on the same page, they will lose another game.

Sunday, 10/28 – 8:20 pm ET

New Orleans Saints 2-4 @ Denver Broncos 3-3

Prediction: Denver Broncos

This should be a shootout. It’s Saints QB, Drew Brees, versus Broncos QB, Peyton Manning. The defenses will struggle in this one, but New Orleans defense is atrocious. That should allow Manning to have a field day. This is also the introduction of new interim Saints head coach, Joe Vitt.

Monday, 10/29 – 8:30 pm ET

San Francisco 49ers 5-2 @ Arizona Cardinals 4-3

Prediction: San Francisco 49ers

Is anyone really picking Arizona right now? San Francisco is the better team, they have a tremendous defense and their offense is capable of moving the ball on a solid Arizona defense. Expect a lot of sacks for San Francisco. Arizona’s offensive line is terrible and they are starting a bunch of backup players. San Francisco should win this one.
