Week 6 Predictions
I was 7-9 in Week 2, 9-7 in Week 3, and was 10-5 in Week 4. Last week I was 10-4. Not bad. I will be the first to admit though… last week’s game were relatively clear cut in terms of picking winners. Sure, there were a couple games that were toss-ups and there were certainly some surprises, but this is the week I return to my “picking around .500” ways. The teams on bye this week are: Carolina, Chicago, Jacksonville and New Orleans.
Thursday, 10/11 – 8:20 pm ET
Pittsburgh Steelers 2-2 @ Tennessee Titans 1-4
Prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers I’m writing this after the fact, but I really thought Pittsburgh would win this one. Pittsburgh is struggling and, normally, the Steelers play well when they are struggling.
Sunday, 10/14 – 1:00 pm ET
Kansas City Chiefs 1-4 @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1-3
Prediction: Tampa Bay Buccaneers This is a toss-up and it’s not really a good one. The Chiefs are starting QB Brady Quinn so they should lean heavily on the run game. Tampa Bay has the 4th-ranked run defense and their offense should be able to move the ball on Kansas City’s defense.
Indianapolis Colts 2-2 @ New York Jets 2-3
Prediction: Indianapolis Colts I’ll go with the hot team. New York is falling apart with rumors of an increased role for QB Tim Tebow and a variety of injuries, but Indianapolis is coming off a huge win over Green Bay and I think they keep it going.
Cincinnati Bengals 3-2 @ Cleveland Browns 0-5
Prediction: Cincinnati Bengals Cincinnati has the talent and, on paper, they should win this game rather easily. It won’t be easy, because they always struggle against Cleveland, but I still think they pull it out.
Detroit Lions 1-3 @ Philadelphia Eagles 3-2
Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles I think Philadelphia wins this one. Detroit has been inconsistent. Their offense has been off and their defense is still overmatched by most NFL offenses. Philadelphia is mistake-prone, but has tremendous talent. Philly should win, but if they turn the ball over, Detroit is more than capable of taking advantage.
Oakland Raiders 1-3 @ Atlanta Falcons 5-0
Prediction: Atlanta Falcons Atlanta’s offense wasn’t as sharp last week as they have been all season, but the Raiders defense in the Georgia Dome isn’t a very threatening defense. The Raiders are expected to run the ball and run it often, which should keep the game closer than expected, but ultimately Atlanta and QB Matt Ryan are too good.
St. Louis Rams 3-2 @ Miami Dolphins 2-3
Prediction: St. Louis Rams Both teams have been surprisingly successful early on this season. St. Louis just knocked off an undefeated Arizona team and Miami stole one from Cincinnati on the road. I think turnovers will define this game between two solid defenses. My bets are on Miami making the mistake.
Dallas Cowboys 2-2 @ Baltimore Ravens 4-1
Prediction: Baltimore Ravens I’m choosing Baltimore because they are playing much better than Dallas at this point. Dallas can certainly win this game. They have the talent. If they return to their run game with RB DeMarco Murray, they could control the time of possession and pull out the win on the road. They need to pull off a win against this type of quality opponent.
Sunday, 10/14 – 4:05 pm ET
Buffalo Bills 2-3 @ Arizona Cardinals 4-1
Prediction: Arizona Cardinals Arizona should get back on track against Buffalo. Arizona’s defense is great and will be able to slow down Buffalo’s offense. Arizona’s offense needs to keep QB Kevin Kolb upright, but if they do that, they have the firepower to win.
New England Patriots 3-2 @ Seattle Seahawks 3-2
Prediction: New England Patriots Seattle’s defense is the top defense in the league and they are playing at home. Weird things happen in Seattle. With QB Russell Wilson leading their offense though, they have limited upside against a Patriots team that plays well in any situation.
Sunday, 10/14 – 4:25 pm ET
New York Giants 3-2 @ San Francisco 49ers 4-1
Prediction: San Francisco 49ers I like San Francisco in a revenge game from last postseason. I don’t really have any particular reason. This is a budding rivalry with two great defenses, two solid coaches and plenty a playmakers across the board. This should be a great game to watch.
Minnesota Vikings 4-1 @ Washington Redskins 2-3
Prediction: Minnesota Vikings Minnesota has been on fire. Their offense is clicking (at least well enough) and their defense is absolutely dominating. Washington has been impressive, but they shouldn’t have enough for Minnesota.
Sunday, 10/14 – 8:20 pm ET
Green Bay Packers 2-3 @ Houston Texans 5-0
Prediction: Houston Texans Houston is playing in primetime against a great team. They are still undefeated and should remain undefeated by the end of this game. Green Bay has holes despite their talent. Houston has yet to show any real weakness.
Monday, 10/15 – 8:30 pm ET
Denver Broncos 2-3 @ San Diego Chargers 3-2
Prediction: Denver Broncos This is one I can’t really explain. I still like Broncos QB, Peyton Manning, and I’m still not sold on San Diego. I think this is another toss-up game and I’m picking Denver.
